What kind of pool is best? If you are considering adding a pool to your property, this is likely a question that you have asked at least once. Today we are going to talk about the different types of pools and how to choose the right one for you!

What Kind of Pool is Best? Adding A Pool To Your Home

When it comes to adding a pool to your home, there are a few factors that will determine what kind of pool is best for your needs.

Size

The best swimming pool for you is the pool that is the right size for your yard! Adding an oversized pool or undersized pool to your yard won’t just look silly, it will be impractical for your needs.

Filtration System

There are multiple types of pool filtration systems and the right filtration system for you depends on a few things. For example, do you have a family that is very sensitive to chemicals? If so, chlorine filtration is not going to be the best solution for your pool, you need to consider a mineral or salt water system for your pool.

In Ground Or Above Ground?

Perhaps the biggest question you might be wondering about is whether an in ground or above ground pool is best for your needs. The chances are that you already know the answer to this –

An above ground pool is going to be your cheapest pool solution, but it is also going to be the worst choice because above ground pools come with some inherent problems that inground pools don’t have.

An above ground pool requires you to create something of an eyesore in your garden which your neighbors may not be too pleased about. If your neighbors don’t complain, though, your homeowners association might still have something to say about it!

An above ground pool is also less sound construction-wise, because you are containing a large amount of water above the ground in a free-standing structure. The inground pool, however, does not have that type of strain since the pool is in the ground and cuts out the pressure formed by water being held in a free-standing tank! For this reason it is also much safer to invest in an in-ground pool because there is little risk of the side of the pool being punctured or weakened.

Weakening of the side of the pool is another concern when you install an above-ground pool. The longer the side of your above ground pool is exposed to sunlight, the more degraded the pool becomes. As the pool begins to degrade, you have a weakened structure that is prone to leaking or breaking and that means costly replacements or costly repairs!

An in-ground pool, however, is a much sturdier construction and you don’t have to worry about the potential cost of repairs or replacement of the pool itself or pool parts due to sun exposure.

The Best Pool For You

Ultimately, the best pool for you is the pool that checks the most boxes on your list. For example, if you have a very minimal budget, you may decide to invest in an above ground pool, or you may decide that it is better to wait and to go with an inground pool after you save up a little more so that you can get the pool of your dreams.

If, however, you are trying to invest in a pool that will last and that will add value to your home, your best investment is always going to be an inground pool.

Whether you decide that an above ground or in ground pool is the best choice for you, the one thing you absolutely must do is contact your homeowners association to ensure that it is not against the HOA rules to install a pool on your property. Installing a pool and then checking with your HOA afterwards is not going to save you from having to remove the pool – many HOAs will force residents to comply with HOA rules.
